Dark Florals: A Trend We Love for Winter!

Trend Watch

We’ve never shied away from a floral here in Carousel, so we’re always thinking of ways to incorporate them into our autumn/winter wardrobe. We’ve spotted a recent mini-trend on the red carpet for dark florals, especially floral prints on a black background, and we’re loving it! We’ve found a few great styles from our range to help you capture the look.

Kyte Lily Floral Dress

New in from our Kyte range, the Lily dress is perfectly chic. Wear with fabulous strappy heels like Elizabeth Banks for a great evening look.

Circus Ingrid Dandelion Dress

It’s approaching that time of year when we start pulling out our boots and tights. The Ingrid dandelion print dress from Circus will look perfect wrapped up with winter woollies. We’re picturing a plum lip colour to really set it off!

Kyte Jackie Contrast Dress

Classic elegance can be yours in the new Jackie contrast dress. Ultra flattering and comfortable, it’s a new favourite with all the staff! We love the hint of print on the collar and pockets. Joan Holloway, eat your heart out!

With Winter Weather Comes Great Fashion…

We’re really starting to feel the winter weather this week! Sure, it isn’t exactly fun to be standing at a bus stop shivering but there is one great thing about cold weather…the clothes! Knitted jumpers, creative layering, scarves in gorgeous colours & patterns, hats… we love it. We’ve seen a lot of folks putting ‘over the knee’ socks over tights, and long sleeves under shorter sleeves.

Aisling modelling our NEW casual collection.

We’re working ‘layers’ in Carousel too. Just this week our Photographer, Lyndsey, did a photoshoot with our resident model, Aisling (above). We have a new range of casuals that were designed to be mix ‘n’ matched with each other. There are dresses, kimono tops, oversized pieces, and a whole host of other elements in the  collection.

We’re working on choosing new fabrics for the Circus Nancy skirt too. We were originally inspired by the sixties for this design. Nancy Sinatra, Daisy flowers and the colours of lomography photography were our main inspirations. As you can see from our collage, below, it’s *very* 1960’s.

Circus Design & Inspiration Ideas

We want to let you in on how our ‘Circus’ designs come to be.

Our design process is simple- we take inspiration from Vintage silhouettes and actresses from the Golden Age of Hollywood ie. Audrey Hepburn, Joan Crawford. From this we get our dress shapes like the shift, the Teadress, and the classic A-Line.

We’re currently designing our Spring range so we’re picking from all these amazing fabrics. We’re thinking of one of these prints for our Twiggy dress. Small patterns are great for Spring while the pink and blue will still tie in well with your Winter wardrobe.

Let us know which fabric you prefer in the comments below.

All the best, Carousel xoxo

Cosy and Cute!

The winter dress.

It almost sounds like an oxymoron, but this little beauty is fast becoming the cornerstone of our cold season wardrobes. Once upon a time it was customary to pack up and store all our pretty dresses in the attic when September rolled around (well isn’t that why we bought all those storage boxes in Ikea?) and dig out the jumpers and jeans. No more we say. We are no longer willing to hide our legs away for 6 long months.

But we’re not saying we want to get frostbite waiting for the 46A either! So what’s a girl to do? Choose between looking fashionable and being comfortable? No way!

Enter the winter dress: it is warm and cosy, but still cute and eye-catching. And with a dress that’s so colourful and fun the rest of your outfit can be oh-so simple. Just add thick tights or leggings and a pair of go-anywhere leather boots. Layer a t-shirt or thin knit sweater underneath on those really chilly days. Plus your classic black coat will look perfect over any of these pieces. As for accessories, it’s chic and minimal all the way to really let that dress shine.    So it’s goodbye jeans everyday and hello gorgeous, practical dresses. We’re sorry we ever doubted you.

Outfit planning this simple may even make getting out of bed on those dark mornings that little bit easier… (well maybe not).
